“Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.” – Philippians 4:6, NIV
Anna had never had a close relationship with her father. Her father worked hard to provide for his family but was frequently absent during family events due to his busy job. Even when he made time to go to events, her dad wasn’t very engaging and seem to just want to go back to work. While Anna was always thankful for the things that her dad did for the family, she questioned what the role of a loving father looked like.
The confusion bled over into her spiritual life and while Anna loved God, she didn’t feel engaged with Him and never really understood when her friends said they had a personal relationship with God. Anna was too afraid to ask God anything or bring her hard questions to Him for fear she’d be rejected or worse, ignored.
But that changed for Anna in college when her basketball coach took her under his wing. For the first time, Anna experienced the deep and rich love of a father figure. She learned that she could approach her coach for guidance when she needed help in any area of her life.
Her basketball coach was a Godly man and well loved by staff and students as well. Anna grew very close to her coach and she learned about the true nature of God. Se discovered that God delights in hearing our requests and longs for His children to come to Him.
What do you think God thinks about you? Are you unsure of how God views you? Maybe you’re afraid to “bug” God and think you can’t approach Him. But God is waiting for you to step into His presence and share your pressing concerns…
God, I’m not always sure how to approach You but I know I want You to be part of my life. I thank You for the reminder that You are always approachable. Show me what a kind, loving father You are. Help me learn to bring every situation to You for guidance.
